Nelissen nominated for 2022 “Family Business Award of Excellence”

Fantastic family news: Nelissen Steenfabrieken has been nominated for the 2022 Family Business Award of Excellence®! The Family Business Award of Excellence is an award that has been presented by EY annually since 2012. This year, Nelissen® has the chance to become the eighth laureate.

The joy at Nelissen is unbridled. At the end of last year, the brick manufacturer celebrated its 100th anniversary, and now 2022 is off to a good start with a nomination for the Family Business Award of Excellence. This is quite an achievement because only family businesses that stand out due to their sustainable family entrepreneurship can be nominated.



It’s no surprise that Nelissen stands out for its entrepreneurship. Not only does the company include its three core values – innovation, co-creation, and sustainability – in its entire policy, it also strongly emphasises the family aspect.

Strong together

Meanwhile, the fourth generation is at the helm of the family business with Burt Nelissen, Carlos Jorissen, and Joeri Gevers as CEOs. All three cousins are on the same page when it comes to running the company, literally and figuratively, as everyone’s co-writing their shared story of a promising future for them and the rest of their family, together with the Nelissen employees. This shows that their slogan, “Strong together, for and through our life’s work”, isn’t just empty words.



With the Family Business Award of Excellence, EY wants to honour the family businesses in our country because they are the engine of our economy and they provide the necessary continuity. On the other hand, EY wants to encourage family businesses to share their experiences with their peers. We will find out whether Nelissen won the prize or not on 22 March 2022. They are already hoping for a positive outcome and are ready to share their passion for business with other family companies.
