IJzer Tower
• After the attack in March 1946, in which the IJzer Tower fell completely, reconstruction started in 1952. The works would take 13 years.
• The tower has 462 stairs, 3,000 m³ of reinforced concrete, and 350,000 Nelissen bricks.
• Safety standards did not exist or were not applied. There weren’t even any safety cables at a height of 80 metres. Miraculously, however, there were no accidents.
• Everyone earned €0.50 per hour.
